Finding peace in the chaos and the rage
Happy New Year. I hope your 2025 is off to a good start. As I reflect on this holiday season and look forward to a new year and new beginnings in 2025, I want to offer up this reflection:
Christmas Eve day I worked in the morning. It was a steadily busy clinic but we kept the flow going. People were appreciative that we were open. We got the children cared for, prescriptions sent and people on their way to their Christmas celebrations. I left the clinic essentially on schedule, got in the car and set my radio to Christmas music and was on my way home to change and head to Christmas Eve dinner at my in-laws. I was stopped at a light and heard lots of honking. Thinking maybe there was some emergency I looked only to find a woman wildly waving her arms and honking and a man in the car ahead of her flipping her the bird. I chuckled to myself that while in my car I was listening to songs about love, joy and peace on Earth, just 2 lanes over there was chaos and rage.
What a metaphor for life! How do you find your peace in all of the chaos and rage that we experience in this world? You simply cannot avoid it. But you CAN choose how you respond to it. As you move into 2025 my wish for you is that you can find your peace in the chaos and the rage. I do that by taking time to slow down and enjoy nature, finding things that I am thankful for no matter what the circumstance and focusing on the relationships that are important to me.
I do not have any public walks planned yet for 2025. I will be resuming those in the spring so keep an eye on my website. For now I am focusing on family and friends and my relationship with myself and nature.
The picture is from 2 years ago on this day - what a difference 2 years can make. (We currently have no snow on those trees in our yard.)
Wishing you a happy and peaceful 2025!
See you in the woods!
